JOSH SUMMERS

Josh SummersJosh is a licensed acupuncturist, a yoga instructor and a mindfulness consultant.  He recently co-authored, The Buddha's Playbook: Strategies for Enlightened Living.  www.satisolutions.com
Josh began studying yoga in the early nineties with a gifted Iyengar yoga teacher in New York City named James Murphy. Since then he has spent several years living abroad in India, Taiwan and Burma where he has studied both yoga and meditation. As his interest in vipassana or insight meditation has developed, so too has his interest in more contemplative forms of yoga practice. With a professional background in oriental medicine and a personal passion for the dharma, Josh fell in love with Yin Yoga as a beautiful synthesis of these two interests.
Josh's classes emphasize safe alignment, the cultivation of moment-to-moment awareness and the potential for freedom in the here and now.

SCHEDULE

SATURDAY 17TH. APRIL FROM 09.00 TO 12.00 O'CLOCK
1)   A Sound Body,  Balancing Yin and Yang.
We rarely think of exercising our joints. Even the thought of 'stressing' the joints is thought to be bad or injurious. And yet, just as with all tissues in the body, if we don't exercise the joints properly, they will degenerate and lose functionality.  This workshop will focus on the Yin tissues of our body, emphasizing the safe and correct way to exercise our joints. The corresponding Yin Yoga sequence will emphasize forward bending as a way of cultivating introspection and deeper awareness. The Yang sequence will deepen the forward bends by toning and stretching the supporting muscles of the deep back line of the body.

SATURDAY 17TH. APRIL FROM 13.30 TO 16.30 O'CLOCK
2)  Tuning the Energy,  Channeling the Flow
The ancient Taoists and yogis believed that vital energy was carried through the body through a system of channels which they called 'meridians'. This workshop will explore the meridian system of the body, discuss how Yin Yoga benefits the meridian system, and investigate methods of self-diagnosis so as to better balance your own energetic being with Yin and Yang principles of exercise. With special attention to opening the hips, the Yin practice will deeply open energetic blocks in the body, while the corresponding Yang sequence will flush these regions with vital energy.

SUNDAY 18TH. APRIL FROM 09.00 TO 12.00 O'CLOCK
3)  Refining the Attention, Meditation in Motion
Meditation is a wonderful technology for understanding our Hearts and Minds with deeper clarity.  But for many, there is tremendous confusion about what meditation actually is. The practice of Yin Yoga offers students the opportunity to develop a meditation practice in a safe and accessible way. Yin Yoga effortlessly allows students to develop deeper stages of awareness, which has a balancing effect on our mental and emotional lives. The Yin sequence will prepare the body for the effortless backbends to come in the Yang flow. Together, the mind naturally settles on a place of stability and receptivity.

SUNDAY 18TH. APRIL FROM 13.30 TO 16.30 O'CLOCK
4) The Tranquil Heart:  The Emergence of Peace:
Focusing on opening the chest and shoulders, this session will explore the Yin and Yang aspects of spiritual cultivation. Reflecting on engaged presence, dynamic non-attachment and effortless attentiveness, we come to recognize freedom and beauty in the here and now, again and again.
